What is a footprint?

All your daily activities emit greenhouse gases. Your food, transportation, heating your home, showering, watching TV, buying clothes, your personal lifestyle influences the developments of these gases. In addition, corporate activities also emit greenhouse gases. Consider the employees who come to the office by car, the electricity and gas that a building uses, transport, production, etc. Greenhouse gas emissions are usually expressed in the number of kilos of CO2.

What is the difference between a carbon certificate and carbon removal certificate?

A carbon certificate, also called a CO2 certificate, represents the amount of CO2 that has been offset through climate-friendly activities, such as planting trees or promoting sustainable energy projects. A carbon removal certificate represents the removal of a certain amount of CO2 from the atmosphere. Bamboo is known for its ability to capture CO2.

How do I buy CO2 credits?

At Bamboo Village you can buy certified credits based on your CO2 footprint. You can calculate the emissions of your personal lifestyle or your company easily and quickly via our website.

Who issues the certificates and where does registration take place?

The carbon certificates are issued by Open Natural Carbon Removal Accounting ( ONCRA ), an independent initiative of The Climate Cleanup Foundation. The certificate you receive after paying for your carbon credits is registered with ONCRA.

What can you do as a buyer with a certificate?

As a buyer of a CO2 certificate, you can demonstrate that you have offset a certain amount of CO2 by investing in our climate-friendly bamboo project in Uganda. This is beneficial for your company's image and can be used to communicate your sustainability and environmental conservation efforts.

How is the amount of CO2 to be absorbed for the bamboo calculated?

We calculate the amount of carbon that bamboo can absorb based on several factors, including the size of the bamboo plants, as well as the length of the growing period. This calculation was carried out under the supervision of ONCRA using scientific data and models that take into account factors such as climate and soil conditions. It is important to make an accurate calculation to correctly measure and report the impact of bamboo on reducing CO2 emissions.

What is CO2 compensation?

Carbon offsets involve compensating for carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions produced by human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, by investing in projects or activities that remove or prevent CO2 from the atmosphere.

How long does it take for bamboo to mature?

We plant several types of bamboo on our plantation. Depending on the species, it takes about 4 to 5 years for the bamboo to reach maturity.

What happens to the bamboo that is cut down?

The cut bamboo is used for various purposes, such as building materials. Sustainable forest management is paramount, so that the bamboo is harvested in a responsible and renewable manner. We harvest the bamboo plants by a maximum of 25% every year, so that the plant continues to stand and grow.

What does Bamboo Village do?

With Bamboo Village you can offset the carbon emissions of your personal lifestyle or your business. We have a certified bamboo plantation in Uganda, about 150 kilometers northwest of the capital Kampala. The plantation is maintained with the help of local residents. How reliable is the Bamboo Village project?

Our bamboo plantation is certified through Open Natural Carbon Removal Accounting ( ONCRA ), an independent initiative of The Climate Cleanup Foundation. ONCRA is committed to removing CO2 from the atmosphere, or carbon dioxide removal (CDR). Our bamboo plantation in Uganda is one such natural disposal method, which uses the power of plants.
